About The Artwork
I was visiting an old, historic cemetery with a friend when she slipped on the wet grass and fell. It was not funny; she had back problems, and that didn't help. However, heartless soul as I am (all artists are, deep down), I immediately saw the subject for a painting. I threw in my favourite Gothic clichés: etherial bats, plastic roses, an extinct thylacine and a fallen angel among them. My friend loves it.

I live in Tasmania, which is about as far away as you can get from everywhere else, and spend as much time as possible in the wilderness - primeval forests are good for the soul. Landscape here is old and weathered and rugged with plenty of rocky mountains and mysterious valleys. Both the scenery and history get described as gothic quite regularly, so that's what I paint. Tasmanian Gothic.
