This split nude figure drawing was inspired by an excerpt from Bill Butler in his trying to link human behavior to a puzzle: “We are like puzzle pieces, we are all unique. We are uncommon, even in our commonality. We all have enormous complexity, even in our seeming simplicity”. James Bullough’s work became a point of focus for me whilst creating these pieces, as he uses a similar style. Personally, I can clearly see distinct sides to myself. I am both introverted and extroverted in different circumstances. I conform in certain necessary situations, but I don’t in others. Often people have conflicting sides to their personalities. Each ‘slice’ of the figure in this artwork represents a piece of Catherine's character. The body is still clearly visible, with only slight distortion, to portray the coming together of each piece to form her human make up .
