About The Artwork

View video of this piece here: https://studio.youtube.com/video/8rN_aCAdlrU/edit Oil bars and mixed media. Original Painted in 2009. Inspired by the wonderful photography of Joerg Warda and painted with his permission. Near-perfect Digital Reproductions now available. They are signed and numbered with a certificate of authenticity. Printed on Somerset Enhanced Velvet. Whilst an element of realism is important, I try to move beyond artistic convention and avoid an image that is too predictable. Realism is not enough – what you take away and add to what you see are what transform a picture into art. I believe the viewer wants to see a degree of draughtsmanship from an artist but they deserve more than this.

Overview As you can see I specialise in capturing the female form - subtle, classical nudes in oil, charcoal, graphite and red chalk. Born in Henley, I spent most of my adult life in London, Hong Kong and Dublin. I am now happily settled in Windsor. I abandoned a career in publishing at the age of 40 to follow my lifelong passion - drawing and painting. I trained at a leading art college in London and was then taught by Michael Clark, who knew Francis Bacon very well (and incidentally the only person to draw him in the flesh). My work has been included in the books ‘Images of Women in Art’ and ‘Musings of Miss Yellow’. As well as being a stay-at-home Dad, I now paint from my Windsor studio and run my own life-drawing classes at the Windsor Art Centre. Testimonial “Patrick Palmer is a modern master of figurative art. His post-romantic nudes are not only exquisitely painted, but also dreamy, delicate and suggestive. They only hint at sensuality and evoke fantasy in the subtle and elegant manner that distinguishes art from pornography.” Claudia Moscovici, Co-founder of postromanticism.com and art critic (“Romanticism and Post-romanticism”, Lexington Books, 2007).
