About The Artwork

This fictional portrait is inspired by stories of African heroine princesses. I called her 'Damaya', which is a beautiful name which also clearly is a name of a strong character. I'm a big fan of painting in a realistic style, so even in this fictional and idealized beauty, I painted her for months (especially her face), to make sure she is fully believable and worth staring at for long periods of time. I used various figurative and fashion references to create an original beauty who exists only in this picture. There's also a warm, light-pink skyline in the background, inspired by my Sci-Fi novel readings, which sometimes blend the futuristic and the rural. She's dressed in a traditional simple African wrapper, standing across a futuristic skyline. This painting blends my appreciation for the simple rural and the advanced and futuristic. In this painting, I worked in my favorite palette, which include a lot of warm colors, yellows, pinks, and browns, and the absence of green, blue, purples and violets. This painting is on canvas stretched across a plywood panel. It can stand on its own, but will need a frame to hang on a wall. It is 4 feet tall and 21 inches wide.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I like to paint and draw, and my favorite medium is oil on canvas. I'm constantly trying to understand 'beauty' and all its components. I make artworks that I think(and hope!) will be beautiful. I think through beauty, an artist can share his message. Of course, as an artist, you're 'free' to make anything you want, but for me, I think the first limitation an artist should place on himself is that it should be beautiful. Speaking of palettes, like the family of reds, oranges, and yellows. So, these are the colors that often feature in my paintings, at least for now.
