Cameraless exploration of the roots of photography, using light and light sensitive paper. Luminograms are created using a photographic printmaking technique that predates the invention of lens based photography. Working in total darkness in a colour darkroom, the process involves making cameraless pictures using just light and photosensitive paper. Developing and printing in a chemical process achieves the end result. These works explore the concretisation of photography as an art form, using only the tools of photography to make images that reference only the photographic method and medium.

Jo Bradford works primarily with cameraless photographic printmaking techniques such as photograms, luminograms and cliché verre prints. Without camera, film or digital intervention, the creation of her prints involves the arrangement of glass plates and objects, stencils and translucent objects through which she exposes coloured light, creating shapes and forms directly onto light sensitive paper, fusing printmaking, painting and traditional darkroom photography practices. Each finished piece is a unique artwork. A three time Arts Council England Grant recipient, Bradford exhibits and sells her work internationally. Jo was born in Hertfordshire, raised in South Africa and lives and works at her studio and darkroom, Green Island Studios, on Dartmoor in Devonshire, UK. -- GRANTS AND AWARDS -- 2016 - Arts Council England Grant - Grants for the Arts Award. 2015 - DNPA / 'Your Dartmoor Fund' Grant - Project Funding Award. 2010 - AA2A - Artist in Residence Scheme - Plymouth College of Art. 2008 - Saatchi Gallery & Harper Collins Publishers - Shortlisted Book Cover Design. 2006 - Unlocking Cornish Potential - Graduate Placement Award. 2004 - Fenton Arts Trust Grant - Project Funding Award. 2003 - Arts Council England Grant - Creative Development Award. 2003 - West Midlands Arts / 'Trade Partners International Grant' - Rhubarb Rhubarb Bursary Award. 2002 - Arts Council England Grant - Creative Development Award. 2002 - West Midlands Arts Grant - Rhubarb Rhubarb Bursary Award.
