About The Artwork

THE PAINTINGS SECTION FROM DAVIS MUSEUM The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona Davis Lisboa, “Marcel Broodthaers #8", 2017, oil on canvas, 11,8 x 11,8 x 1.57 in (30 x 30 x 3,5 cm) What/who inspired the work? Formally, I was inspired by the German artist Gerhard Richter's blurred and mysterious paintings. Conceptually, I was inspired by a film still from a Broodthaers's video titled "Wax Figures (Jeremy Bentham)", 1974, filmed in London in which the Belgian artist asks questions to a wax figure of the philosopher and jurist Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832), one of the founders of the University of London. This painting shows the moment when the Belgian artist says to the wax figure: "a new statement..." What do you hope its viewers will think? I hope viewers understand I am creating "The Paintings Section From Davis Museum". This group of oil on canvas is about "the artists who created their own museums" narrative in the Art History. Portraits are always about three artists only: Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou and Marcel Broodthaers. Still lifes are about the "imaginary museums" created by these artists: "Boîte-en-valise", "La galerie légitime" and "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles". Some artworks are self-portraits and others are generic images related with the idea explained above: briefcases, hats, eagles and pianos. Why did you choose the medium? I just love oil paintings. It is a very sophisticated and glossy medium. Oil paintings can be kept in good condition for centuries. This is the only section of the museums in which the works are for sale. Support The Davis Museum art project by buying now this painting on Saatchi Art. How will your artwork be packed for a movement? Artwork will be guaranteed to be shipped in accordance with high security standards, so that your shipment is as safe as possible while traveling from the artist's studio to your museum, gallery, hotel, business or home. For this, your oil paintings on canvas will be sent unrolled, stretched out on a wooden frame, flat, without frames and any special assembly. The packaging of wrapped canvases consists of: · An acid-free archival quality glassine paper cover · Two sheets of Foam boards · A sealed heavy plastic bag (to protect against moisture) · Two layers of bubble wrap and secure with tape · Cardboard protectors to each corner of the oil painting · Two other larger sheets of Foam boards · A sturdy cardboard box marked as "Fragile" Davis Museum Paintings Section in Private Collections Alejandro Vásquez Herrero Collection, Viladecans, Spain. Daniel Marcoux Collection, Montreal, Canada. Francisco Torres Collection, Barcelona, Spain. Geert De Kegel Collection, Zele, Belgium. Soter Argyrou Collection, Nicosia, Cyprus.
