About The Artwork

It is a paradise that inspires the viewers to imagine the impossible and reach out to grab that piece of idealism, feel it, touch it, and warm the heart to a better tomorrow. This was inspired by the extraordinary scene of JiuZhaiGou, China. The original scene, the lakes, the sky and the trees are reinterpreted through digital manipulation, creating the ideal landscape through the fragments of reality. It is real and yet it is, to a certain extent, imaginary, where all things beautiful conjured together to give us a sense of serenity and peace. One will be awed. The serenity and peace one felt lingers on and on. One can only stand there watching, watching … One see a Paradise in the making, of exotic birds, of colourful fishes and … water, nature and sky. They dissolved into each other … becoming a calming space where birds and fishes of different geographies, shapes, sizes, colours and habits converge, descending into this dark shade of Persian Blue. The four metres length, forces the viewers to glide along, discovering the details, and unraveling the mysteries and secret that was embedded in it. At times one could vaguely see a dragon, the auspicious animal in the Chinese zodiac, dwelling beneath the water. In all one would always be energized after a hectic day my gazing into this Paradise, with perhaps a glass of red wine in hand and some soothing light music. As the creator, I too derive peace each time I look at them. In all there are more than 40 birds used in this piece. Some are hidden and peering out from among the foliage, allowing the viewers to discover more of them as they would slowly glide their eyes along the landscape. The surreal landscape provided an opportunity to disrupt our senses, dissolving spatial limitation through reflections, distance, shapes and sizes, prying and dislodging the myriads impossibilities that could jolt our visual senses when we question the them. I would perceive Paradise is a place where the impossible becomes tangible and real. The birds are photograph (Licensed ) contribution from Chong Boon Leong, Tia Too Seng and Vincent Ng.
