Garden Glass "Spikes" Sculpture

Art designed to withstand the non-sterile gallery that a garden is and to survive outside in all weathers. The inspiration for all my work is the amazing glass that is available and how it can be used for people to see its beauty inside and outside. The way it changes appearance in different light conditions and angles of viewing fascinates me. This is a leaded stained glass panel with a stainless steel frame and legs. Inspired by a tracery stained glass panel within the Great Rose window in York Minster. Originally designed and made by the seller for a show garden at the 2015 Harrogate Spring Flower Show - "A Yorkshire Roof Garden". The spikes and background are created using transparent waterglass. The base is a feathered blue glass. Due to the texture and colour they change appearance according to the light conditions and angle being viewed from. In sunlight, colour is projected onto whatever is to the north of the panel. This is illustrated by the top left picture. The texture distorts the view of whatever is behind the panel when looking straight through it. I find all my stained glass garden art takes on a life of its own, that always needs checking when in the garden, or looking at the garden. Made with traditional leaded stained glass techniques, it is weather proof, just like church windows. The glass contains some ridges and small bubbles, making every panel unique. The panel excluding the legs is 39cm (15.5 inches) tall and 20cm (8 inches) wide. The legs are 20cm (8 inches) long. The frame and legs are made with 4mm diameter 316 grade stainless steel rod.
