The Telomere collection acts as a subversive counterpoint to my Intelevisionary paintings. There is a clear departure from the crisp mechanical abstraction as more organic forms are explored. These painted sketches are directly inspired by a primal history reflecting a natural world sometimes cruel and twisted in beauty. Although the gnarled contours are reminiscent of treelike limbs there remains an underlying ambivalence to the resulting work. An organic connection is ever present and is a driving aspect behind the creative process. Although stylistically and thematically opposed to the Intelevisionary works the Telomere paintings evolve in a similar freeform process. Artwork creation has been paired down to a direct sketching approach melding watercolour and ink on paper. Each painting begins unplanned with a random and rapid fire splatter and flow of earthy watercolours. To the dry paint, intense black ink is carved into the colour either with a nib or a dry stick. The resulting vein like strands snake across the page to form their own distorted typography. Age. Less. Archival Inks and Watercolour on 300gsm Acid Free Paper.
