Through abstraction I explore interactions of shape and color inspired by everyday life. I walk and observe sounds, movement and changing qualities of light. Once in the studio I refer back to these moments. I cut, draw and paint marks as an attempt to make sense of time, the inevitability of change, and new possibilities. As I work, the boundary between reality and memory become intertwined. Colors, forms, and edges act as a hinge between representational and imagined conditions. I examine the interaction of color and shape, layering abstracted moments on top of one another. Forms are repeated and layered depicting levels of concealment and revealing unexpected forms. Through this process I discover and repeat patterns, working intuitively to capture the memory or feeling of a place.
