About The Artwork

Printmaking: Digital on Paper, Canvas and Other. The theme of "Hathorian Awakening" first began to emerge spontaneously in my work in 2003 in an iconic work my circle of friends and family lovingly called "Cow Painting". Hathor is an ancient Egyptian Goddess often represented in Egyptian mythology as a cow or a steer with a sun disk over the head between the horns. The cult of Osiris in ancient Egypt, like its more modern Christian counterpart, held out the promise of immortality. Originally the dead, male or female, became an Osiris, or a resurrected one. By early Roman times females who had achieved this level of transcendence had become identified with the Goddess Hathor. Thus Hathor evolved over time into a symbol of feminine transcendence. In 2010 an unintentional but nevertheless distinct form of a cow/steer in profile with a round disc above the head spontaneously appeared in an abstract painting. It took awhile for me to realize that the Goddess had made an appearance in the painting. A photo of this original painting from 2010 is included in the descriptive photos for reference. This particular print, "Hathorian Awakening #3", is a digital composite and one of multiple variations created in the computer from a high resolution photographs of the original painting from 2010.

Technology has played an important role in the development of my work as an artist. Though I consider myself primarily a painter, I feel that much of my most original and progressive work is in the newly emergent digital medium. I grew up artistically in the heart of a technological hub and this was central to the integration of technology with my art. I do not believe that technology is "the" future of art. I believe that technology, like every innovation in art before it, is an exciting new aspect of modern art and I feel honored to be a part of that. I am also a theorist on the nascent field of contemporary metapsychology.
