About The Artwork

THE PAINTINGS SECTION FROM DAVIS MUSEUM The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona Davis Lisboa, “Marcel Broodthaers #6", 2016, oil on canvas, 15,74 x 15,74 x 13,77 in (40 x 40 x 3,5 cm) What/who inspired the work? This painting was inspired by a film still from “La Pluie, Projet Pour Un Texte” (The Rain, Project for a Text) by Marcel Broodthaers from 1969. What do you hope viewers will feel/think? I hope that viewers think about the conceptual connection between the Belgium artist and myself, and between the Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles and the Davis Museum. ? Why did you choose the medium, subject, style?? I chose the oil painting medium because I can get a good final result and especially because it is a durable medium. I chose the subject of the Broodthaers's portrait taken from his film “La Pluie, Projet Pour Un Texte” because this piece intrigues me very much. His film is very uncanny and I was interested to keep this kind of hermeticism in my painting. Unlike the movie, in my painting there is no rain and nothing is wet. There is no face certifying it is the Broodthaers’s portrait. It seems there is a free space in the head area where the portrait of any person could be painted. It's a free space like the Davis Museum. I would like to add that all Broodthaers existing images on Internet are black and white photographs. I never found a picture of him in color nor any portrait painted in oil on canvas. For this reason, this painting done in 2016 could be the first in this category. Once it is published on the Internet, this painting will be part of the Big Data for the future, creating a dialogue with the Belgian artist and his work. I chose a neutral, contained and almost flat painting style, with shades of blue to convey what I experienced on my trip to Brussels circa 1988: dim ambient light and constant rain. And also I interested me convey what I consider the most obvious feeling Broodthaers's work: his deep melancholy. How will your artwork be packed for a movement? Artwork will be guaranteed to be shipped in accordance with high security standards, so that your shipment is as safe as possible while traveling from the artist's studio to your museum, gallery, hotel, business or home. For this, your oil paintings on canvas will be sent unrolled, stretched out on a wooden frame, flat, without frames and any special assembly. The packaging of wrapped canvases consists of: · An acid-free archival quality glassine paper cover · Two sheets of Foam boards · A sealed heavy plastic bag (to protect against moisture) · Two layers of bubble wrap and secure with tape · Cardboard protectors to each corner of the oil painting · Two other larger sheets of Foam boards · A sturdy cardboard box marked as "Fragile" Davis Museum Paintings Section in Private Collections Alejandro Vásquez Herrero Collection, Viladecans, Spain.
